A Mutare man has been sentenced to four months in prison for selling veterinary medicines without a valid permit. Panduka Pedzisai (37) of house number 7695 Nyamauru in Dangamvura pleaded guilty before Mutare magistrate Ms Perseverance Makala for unlawfully possessing veterinary medicines.
He was charged with contravening Section 80 of the Medicines and Allied Substances Control (General) Regulations 1991 and Statutory Instrument 150 of 1991 as read with Section 106 of the regulations Chapter 15:03.
Representing the State, Ms Perseverance Musukuto told the court that the accused unlawfully displayed various veterinary medicines in his shop without a veterinary medicines general dealer’s permit.
The medicines included Sentinel Dip, Sentinel Pour, Valbazen for cattle, Valbazen for sheep, Ranox, Tickbuster and Fivox.
“On 7 January at around 2pm detectives were on patrol when they received information that the accused person was selling veterinary medicines without a permit.
“The detectives approached the accused person and observed that he was displaying veterinary medicines which require a permit to sell,” Ms Musukuto said.
She said Pedzisai failed to produce a veterinary permit when the detectives asked for it leading to his arrest.
He was sentenced to four months in prison with an option to pay $200 fine and was ordered to surrender all the medicines to Government.
