Zanu PF’s Cde Thamson Lamula Ndou was on Wednesday elected unopposed as councillor for Ward 14 under the Beitbridge Rural District Council (BBRDC) at the close of business at the Nomination Court.

The court held its sitting at the BBRDC offices to receive nomination papers from candidates seeking to contest the Ward 14 by-election.

The seat fell vacant in December last year following the death of Councillor Milton Ndou.

Cde Ndou, who emerged victorious in the ZANU PF primary elections held in Ward 14 on Friday, was the only candidate who successfully submitted his nomination papers by 4pm on Wednesday.

District Elections Officer Mr Adrian Muyambo made the announcement at the BBRDC offices today.

“One candidate of the Zanu PF party Mr Ndou Lamula Thamson has been nominated. I Adrian Muyambo accordingly in terms of section 125, sub section 4, paragraph (a) of the Electoral Act chapter 213, I declare that the said Ndou Lamula Thamson of Zanu Pf Party is duly elected councillor for Ward 14 henceforth from today the 21sth of January,” said Mr Muyambo.

He said the court will be open from 8am to 4pm on Thursday for those who wish to inspect the nomination papers.

He highlighted that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) will now formally inform the Beitbridge Rural District Council to commence with the swearing-in and other legal processes.

In an interview at the Nomination Court, Cde Ndou, a renowned farmer, reiterated his pledge to prioritise community engagement and consultations if elected into office.
