Unpacking life’s battles

Rutendo Gwatidzo

THERE is no one who grows up aiming to fail in life. All of us want to succeed. We want to “have it all” regardless of our circumstances,  but very few of us want to accept that we will need to fight for that success. Life is a series of fights. It is not a stroll in the park and nothing comes on a silver platter. Fighting is the bridge that separates success and failure. However, it is not a matter of fighting anyhow, it is a matter of fighting with winning strategies.

I have observed through the lives of my mentors, friends, associates, family, colleagues, and even in my own personal experiences that life is a battle. Often, we do not get what we deserve, but what we fight for.

Every stage of life comes with some kind of conflict or fight that we need to face and overcome in order to get to the next stage. Life is lived in levels and arrived at in stages. The nature of these fights differ according to the various stages of life, but we all need to go through them.

The difference between whether we come out of these conflict situations as a victor or a victim depends on how we perceive these fights. If we always view conflict as something that we fear or makes us anxious, then we can end up living our lives under a great deal of stress and negative emotions.

On the other hand, if we can learn to embrace these fights as opportunities to learn and grow, then we do not need to fear them, become anxious about them or resent them. We can look forward to these conflicts as opportunities for us to grow stronger, become wiser, and ultimately resolve our negative circumstances instead of remaining paralysed by unfortunate situations.

I wrote a book titled “Born to Fight” and it aims to help you identify the different types of fights that come in life. I also shared some of the tools that can be effective in dealing with these different battles of life.

I share how we are all born to fight and how we can survive these common battles of life with winning strategies.

I am in no way placing myself in the position of an expert, but I am coming alongside your journey like a good friend. I share what I have learnt so that it may be of use to you as well.

In this book, I share others’ and my background so that you can see that no matter the circumstances you come from, the difference between accomplishment and failure lies in the choices that you make and all of us have the privilege of freewill.

I also share defeats so that you can avoid making the same mistakes. My aim is to encourage you and to let you know that we all can rise from places of setback and continue to move forward.

I share victories to remind you to celebrate your successes and to know that, it is possible to overcome. Victory does not discriminate; it belongs to anyone who will fight for it. My prayer is that you will find some nuggets of wisdom that will encourage you to continue moving forward and give you hope for a better future. While we are all born to fight, we must take heart and embrace the opportunities in every fight that we face to lead a life of triumph.

Sometimes in life, in as much as we might be well intentioned in wanting to avoid negative situations, avoiding them doesn’t really solve the situation hence as we engage in solving the situation, we engage in battles in that particular regard.

Food for thought?

What is it that you are tired of? What is it that you need change? The answer to that simply reveals your battle of the moment.

All you need is to intentionally study the situation in order to gain knowledge and understanding about it and employ some winning strategies. All the best.

“Born to Fight” is a book for everyone going through a battle in one way or the other. It was recently approved by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education as a humanities supplementary book for secondary school. Order some copies today and donate to one or more secondary schools of your choice.
