Other musicians who made it into the top six included Tanga wekwa Sando on second position who got US$ 15 000, Jairos Hambahamba came third and was given US$12 000, Jennifer Muneni who was fourth got US$10 000, Bob Nyabinde’s song was voted fifth and got him US$7 500 while Rute Mbangwa completed the list on sixth position and got US$5 000.
National Arts Council of Zimbabwe deputy director Nicholas Moyo who was chief adjudicator of the entries said the panel was overwhelmed by the quality and quantity of the entries.
“We were looking at the quality and packaging of the songs. We still feel the winners have to perfect some grey areas noted by the judges,” he said.
Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive Karikoga Kaseke said the winners would only get a third of the amount until they polish the songs.
All the winning six songs will be on the album that will promote the country during the UNWTO general assembly.
