Upcoming talented Afro-Jazz sensation Sean Matsvai, aka Shawnsay, has dropped a single which he says would decide his fate in the industry. The single titled “Wandipengesa”, recorded under the Revival stable, is a well mastered ballad that captures a powerful chemistry between two people whose love for each other is disturbed by a huge age gap.

“This song which features Shazzy is inspired by a man that comes across a beautiful minor and is attracted to her and interestingly the minor has the same feelings.

“They soon realise their feelings cannot create a relationship they seek due to a big age gap which prompts the man to ask if she has a bigger sister with the minor inquiring if he has a younger brother,” explained Matsvai.

A part of his upcoming album which he intends to drop first week of September, the musician is hopeful it would be the possible hit he needs for a breakthrough.

“The song is a part of my debut album titled ‘Wandipengesa’, the response I am getting is overwhelming and people are loving my latest work.

“Given that it gets proper marketing I am hopeful this is a possible hit that I need for my breakthrough,” said the Harare Polytechnic Engeneering student.

The single per se has a mature, fully realised sound with a strong lyrical sensibility and Mutsvai sings it with convincing passion and sincerity.

“The song is very emotional and requires a passionate singer to rightly project vivid images of an impossible love, good thing about me is I am naturally gifted,” said the artist.

With a fast moving beat that is danceable, the well mastered song reverberates with such clear cut lines like,

“Hauna Mukoma akanaka sewe here/Ndinaye Mukoma akanaka seni . . .

“Runako rwako, rwandikanganisa mafungiro/ Tarisiro yako yandinyanyira ufunge . . .

“Ini ndanakidzwa, Dai zvaibvira taidanana/ Asi hazvigone, makore angu inini awanda ahhhh . . . “

The Mabvuku-based song writer revealed to Cool Lifestyle that despite having successfully cut the song, exorbitant studio costs had stood as a challenge along the way.

“It was not easy to bring it out due to high studio costs which prompted me to use all my proceeds during my attachment,

“However, one has to dig deep in the pockets if you are committed and you need a finely done final product,” he said.

Matsvai intends to submit it to various radio stations anytime in the coming few weeks and is optimistic it will receive a favourable airplay.

“For now the single is not yet on air although I have been sharing it to those who usually appreciate my music.

“Nevertheless, I intend to submit to our radio stations and this time I am sure it will cause a sensation across Zimbabwe,” he said.

Matsvai reiterated that the future of Afro Jazz was very bright as long as the old generation of musicians assisted the upcoming ones since the genre is a reflection of maturity.

“Afro Jazz is a genre for the mature, hence the old guard has a task to assist the young upcoming artists if we are to have a brighter future.”
