Upcoming Dendera artist itches for recognition

UPCOMING Dendera musician, Sebastian Matanhire, says he is disappointed by the lack of interest and appreciation for his music from yesteryear legends.

The 38-year-old believes he has been let down by some legends who reneged on their promises to assist him.

“The late Simon Chimbetu used to work with my uncle Gladman Mugari and that inspired me a lot.

“During that time, I would ask Simon what I should do and he gave me advice not to give up.

“However, the way big names say they will support us, as upcoming artists, and the response you get when you approach them, is different.

“The marketing in Zimbabwe is very low, we do not have a lot of people standing by our music and marketing us,” he said.

Sebastian said there were many financial challenges he has been facing as well.

“The challenge that my music has been facing is that I am not able to get sponsorship to get managers, to do live shows and even money to finish recording my first album.

“I have only managed to record two out of seven songs,” he said.
