Upcoming musician bemoans lack of exposure

Upcoming gospel musician, Owen Munaki, has bemoaned the lack of exposure for upcoming musicians. Munaki recently launched a three-song singles collection titled “Inzwi Rashe”.

Speaking on the sidelines of the “Inzwi Rashe” album launch, Munaki urged promoters to give upcoming musicians a platform to shine and prove themselves.

“The biggest challenge that we are facing as upcoming musicians is getting our music to the people. Without exposure, a good product will die a natural death. Deliberate efforts to put upcoming musicians on the spotlight must be made,” Munaki, who fronts the House of Angels Band, said.

The Mutare-based musician attributed the lukewarm reception that his first album “Munyaradzi Wangu” received, to a lack of an effective marketing strategy.

“In all honesty, I think that the album was good and should have done better on the local music charts. The problem that we had was the lack of an effective marketing strategy,” Munaki, who was born and bred in Bikita, said.

Turning to his latest release, Munaki, who also collaborated with Blessing Shumba on one of the three songs, was confident that “Inzwi Rashe” will strike the right cords.

“I was inspired by Blessing Shumba and working with him on this project helped me a lot. I am now confident that I will finally make it,” Munaki added.

He worked with Blessing Shumba on the song “Ndinzwe.”

Also featured on the other two songs were songbird Bethan Pasinawako and pastors Norest Matende and Castermore Vhengere.

The song “Handikusiyei,” was produced by Lyton Ngolomi, with Olin Anderson of Kunashe Studio, producing the other songs.

Ngolomi has produced music for Blessing Shumba, Mathias Mhere, Kudzi Nyakudya, Agatha Murudzwa, Rumbi Zvirikuzhe and Olinda Marowa among others.
