Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister Cde Supa Mandiwanzira has urged radio stations and television channels to uphold the 75 percent local content policy saying the ministry will supervise to ensure the requirement is fulfilled. Speaking at a farewell party organised by ZiFM Stereo, Deputy Minister Mandiwanzira said Government would help aspiring artistes to improve the quality and content of their products.
“We must follow the law and it stipulates that radio stations should play 75 percent local content.
“There is no one who is opposed to ZBC playing 75 percent local content but I know that there are some people who are opposed to national radios playing 75 percent local content that is trash. We will be working on improving the standards of our local content,” he said.
He urged artistes to improve on the quality of their products as more airwaves are going to be opened.
“Zimbabweans must brace up to the opportunity of content development because there will be multiple channels.
“Producers should start to work on other quality productions as airwaves would be soon opened.”
Deputy Minister Mandiwanzira said he was humbled by his appointment to Government.
“I am humbled by the appointment by President Robert Mugabe. I was shocked when my name was called out that I should go to State House during a Parliament workshop.
“I was even more humbled when I was presented with my letter of appointment.
“I went into politics reluctantly and thought I would serve the people of Nyanga but here I am serving the interest of the whole nation,” he said.
He said he was happy to work with Professor Jonathan Moyo whom he is deputising.
“I am under the tutelage of a hard worker and an intelligent person. I am happy to work with Professor Moyo,” he said.
