Uphold military values, soldiers urged

Members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) have been implored to uphold military values and desist from partaking in activities that drag the name of the profession into disrepute. This was said by Deputy Commander 5 Infantry Brigade, Colonel James Bishi while officiating during Squad Drills and Small Arms course graduation at 5.1 Infantry Battalion recently.

Col Bishi said indiscipline, especially going away without official leave (AWOL), was rampant within the army and warned soldiers against such activities.

“Let me take this opportunity to remind the graduates on the need to uphold military values namely discipline, loyalty, integrity and self-dedication to duty,” he said. “The ZNA shall continue to uphold zero tolerance on cases of indiscipline, particularly AWOL, desertion, theft and corruption, among other misdemeanors.”

Col Bishi said the institution will not hesitate to deal with mull-contents within the army.
“The organisation shall not hesitate to remove bad elements bent on jeopardising its values and the good image it built over the years,” he said. “You are to remember at all times that defending our sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interest will forever remain our core business.

“I, therefore, urge you to maintain a high sense of self-discipline and dedication throughout the remainder of your careers.”
Col Bishi said training will remain the army’s priority as the soldiers continue to be sharpened on skill and drills for future commitments.

His sentiments comes as 67 students graduated out of the possible 68 after one was returned to base due to indiscipline.
Of the graduates, 10 were female.

The four-months course was split into phases, with the first being the small arms package and the second focused on the general squad drill package.
