MADZIBABA Norest Hlohla has challenged students to uplift their former schools, especially the marginalised ones, and to play their part in the development of these institutions.
He graced a ceremony to honour outstanding students at his former school, Mururi Secondary School, in Zvimba.
Madzibaba Norest Hlohla hailed community leaders for being resilient in maintaining the standards of marginalised schools.
During the ceremony, over 300 pupils were handed exercise books.
“I am a former student of Mururi Secondary School and I had to make sure that I honour the students.
“Being part of marginalised communities, people tend to forget these students.
“So, I decided to come back to my school and motivate these children.
“I am urging my old classmates and others to also remember their former schools, especially those schools which are in the marginalised or rural set-ups.”
He added:
“I was born in Zvimba and we need to visit these areas every time so that the current crop of students can also become hopeful that there is light at the end of their studies.
“I prepared and bought these items for the local people and our students as part of giving them hope.
“There is life in these rural set-ups and we should hail the parents and communities for helping these children.
“I donated books to over 300 students as part of a motivational package to these rural students and I even handed over some cash to the teachers as appreciation for the work they are doing.
“There was also a football tournament, which was won by Matoranhembe High School.”
