IN a bid to revive the genre, urban grooves artists are expected to renew their romance with United Kingdom-based fans next month.

Artists like Maskiri, Leonard Mapfumo, Madiz, Tererai, Ngoni Kambarami, Alexio Kawara, Decibel, Xtra Large and Trevor Dongo are expected to grace the Dunstable Conference Centre in the UK on August 28.

The event is dubbed “Urban Groove Linkup.”

Speaking to H-Metro, Maskiri said:

“We are going to take them down memory lane with our yesteryear songs and also give them new stuff.

“We understand many people in the Diaspora went during the time when the urban grooves genre was being introduced so they can relate with our most popular hits.

“It’s a special concert for some of us because we will forever be proud to be associated with the Urban Music Movement and every genre that came up under the Culture of urbanising our local music.”

Maskiri believes the genre gave birth to stars, when it was introduced.

“Urban grooves made way for most of the music coming up, ZimDancehall, Hip Hop, Afro Pop, RnB and we will, forever, be grateful to be pioneers of such a successful movement.

“We wouldn’t want to be anything else besides Urban Grooves because we are the foundation,” he said.
