US-based athlete Ndlovu shines at Nust

UNITED States-based Reinhard Ndlovu returned in a blaze to win the senior men’s 400m dash in 47.30 seconds in the Bulawayo Athletics Board competition held at the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) yesterday. Former Petra High School pupil, Ndlovu is in the country on holiday from Oral Roberts University in Oklahoma, US where he is doing a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
Ndlovu is a product of the Nyasha Charandura Athletics Academy (NCA) which is based at Nust.

He said he was happy to be back home after finishing his first year in the US and hopes to share what he learnt there with local athletes.
“It’s good to be racing back home, where I started and with my coach Nyasha (Charandura), I have finished my freshman year and I have managed to adjust to the environment and training and I hope during my stay here I will be able to share one or two with others,” he said.

The US-based runner boasts of a personal best of 46.80 seconds and targets to represent the country in the Olympic and All Africa Games.
“My aim now is to qualify for the All Africa Games and Olympics and I am working hard to achieve that,” said Ndlovu

NCA athlete Kiana Lees who is going to the US on Wednesday to take part in the Christian Colleges Convention, clocked 11.75 seconds to win the 100m senior women’s category sprint.

The 15-year-old is set to compete in the 100 and 200m events in the US.
Lesley Chibaro won the 400m junior men’s in 52.14 seconds while Moses Ncube was second in 53.09 seconds.

Sparrows athlete Thando Maphosa won the 800m race in 1 minute 55.4 seconds while Abraham Ncube trailed in 2 minutes 02.5 seconds.
