AWARD-WINNING businessman and philanthropist, Bevan Makaka, is set to receive another gong from the Zimbabwe Independence Celebration Committee (ZICC).
He sponsored gospel musician Minister Michael Mahendere’s recent show to the United States.
In January, Makaka was honoured at the Zim Community News awards with the Diaspora Ambassador of the Year award.
Local artists, who have been sponsored by Makaka to perform at his base in Dallas, include Jah Signal and Tocky Vibes, among others.
The ZICC is a non-political organisation that was formed in 2022 to celebrate Zimbabwe’s independence.
ZICCC chairperson Engineer Joseph Mudekunye, who is also based in the US, told H-Metro yesterday that the organisation seeks to honour Zimbabweans, who are excelling in their communities.
“Our vision is to see a better Africa, in general and a spectacular Zimbabwe in particular, where trade and commerce are very reliable, effective and efficient.
“Our mission is to allow all Zimbabweans living in the US to come together and celebrate our heritage, share ideas on how to build our country and celebrate our success.”
The citation for Makaka, signed by Mudekunye, reads:
“This year our committee has agreed to honour you with the Mentorship and Youth Empowerment award in recognition of your resilience and contribution to the Zim-Dallas community.”
The ceremony to celebrate the award winners will be held on Independence Day.
