HOW big was the armed robbery at ABC Auctions in Harare on Saturday morning?
Police have confirmed that cash and property, worth about US$1.4 million, was lost in the heist.
That’s about R21 million rand.
A staggering US$18,6 million in Botswana Pula.
And, a cool 22 million Zambian kwacha.
Police said they are investigating an armed robbery, which took place along Seke Road, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The incident happened at around 1:30am on Saturday when four unknown armed suspects attacked security guards, tied their hands with shoe-laces before blasting open five safe boxes.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said the four suspects were armed with four unidentified pistols.
“They tied the security guards with shoe-laces and put them under the guard of two suspects while the other two proceeded to the company offices where they blasted five safe boxes and stole cash and property worth US$1 400 000,” he said in a statement.
The robbery comes hard on the heels of a heist at How Mine where 11.6kgs of smelted gold was stolen.
Three suspects, who were allegedly part of the gold heist, were arrested and appeared at the West Commonage Magistrates’ Court last Friday.
