A PLUMTREE District Hospital nurse has reportedly resigned after being suspended over allegations that she swindled residents, a colleague and aspiring nurses out of thousands of US dollars.
Eustina Tshuma reportedly submitted her resignation letter over the weekend, days after hospital authorities suspended her on Friday.
A source at the hospital confirmed the development.
“I can confirm that Eustina Tshuma has resigned. She filed her resignation after she had been suspended,” said the source.
Plumtree District Hospital medical officer, Dr Joe Nganunu, said investigations were still underway.
“We are still investigating the matter and hope by day end we will have the final report,” said Dr Nganunu.
Tshuma is accused of allegedly borrowing money using sob stories about sick parents and promising aspiring nurses places at nursing schools in exchange for payments.
Some complainants allege that she demanded up to US$1 500 from desperate families, claiming she had connections at the Ministry of Health and Child Care that could help secure places at nursing schools, particularly Brunapeg Mission in Mangwe District.
The allegations have reportedly left some families counting their losses, with complainants claiming they sold goats and cattle to raise money for their children’s nursing training.
Other alleged victims claim Tshuma became hostile when they approached her seeking refunds.
Some complainants have reportedly formed a WhatsApp group dubbed “Scammed by Eustina” to compile their claims and discuss filing a police report. — @mthabisi_mthire
