A pregnant Zimunya woman who was having problems with her boyfriend landed herself in trouble after she aborted in a bid to punish her lover.
Fortunate Mashava (24) was last week dragged before Mutare senior magistrate Mrs Sekai Chiundura, who found her guilty of illegally terminating the pregnancy.
Mashava took an unknown substance to abort the five-month-old pregnancy.

Her boyfriend reported the matter to the police.
Asked by Mrs Chiundura why she drank the alleged substance she said: “Your worship I consumed Coartem because I had a malaria fever. I didn’t know I was killing the baby. I was also facing hard times with my boyfriend”.

However, the magistrate did not buy her story.
She was fined $100 or serve two months in prison.

Public prosecutor Mr Cuthbert Bhosha told the court that at an unknown date between March and April this year the accused drank an unknown substance with the intention of aborting.

The matter only came to light when her boyfriend spilled the beans to the police.
