I saw her in bed with lover, says man who killed wife

A MAN from Bulawayo who was employed as a soldier has been slapped with a 16-year jail sentence for murder after he stabbed his wife over infidelity claims.

Gugulethu Ndlovu pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder before Bulawayo High Court Judge Justice Evangelista Kabasa. He was, however, convicted and sentenced.

In his defence, he told the court that he had a dispute with his wife over infidelity.

“I got to the house in Esigodini, Matabeleland South province at around 8pm and when l approached the victim’s room, l peeped through the window and realised that she was being intimate with her lover.

“I called her out and explained to her that my intention was to make peace and reconcile with her. I showed her the money which was about US$800 that l had saved up for her to start a small business. 

“I went on to ask her about the man she was being intimate with, it was at that point when her boyfriend Binos Moyo came outside,” he said.

Ndlovu stated that a scuffle ensued and his wife produced a knife.

“The victim produced a sharp knife resulting in her stabbing me several times on the hands, legs, behind the neck and at the back. We wrestled and it is during this scuffle that the victim was stabbed,” he said.

However, the court heard that on 20 January 2020, the deceased went to visit her mother in Esigodini following a marital dispute between her and Ndlovu.

On 24 January 2020, Ndlovu went to the victim’s mother’s house and arrived at 8pm. He knocked at the front door and the victim opened. She was in the company of three children. 

She invited Ndlovu inside the house but he refused to  enter and remained at the veranda.

The couple had an argument over an undisclosed issue until Ndlovu started assaulting her. The victim instructed one of the children to tell her brother, Khulekani Ncube that she was being assaulted by the culprit.

Ndlovu went on to stab the victim with a knife resulting in her death. The matter was reported to the police and investigations were conducted leading to the arrest of Ndlovu.
