A MONEY changer is battling for life at the United Bulawayo Hospitals after she sustained injuries after being dragged for almost 200 metres while clinging onto a car of alleged robbers who had just relieved her of $240 along Fort Street in the city centre.
Ms Viola Mpofu from Mpopoma was dragged on the road and later pushed off the speeding vehicle by the menacing robbers. Bulawayo police could not readily comment on the issue. However, witnesses said three people in a Honda Fit who were carrying fake United States dollars approached Ms Mpofu pretending to change the money.
“The men came here and asked for $240 in bond notes because they had United States dollars. It was around 4pm and they parked their car in front of us.
Viola approached them but she refused to take their money after realising that they were fake notes. The car sped off while Viola was still clinging onto the car, I suspect they were holding her hands while they tried to take the money from her,” said one of the money changers who witnessed the incident.
She said Ms Mpofu was dragged for more than 200 metres before being dropped at the robots along Fort Street.
“She was badly injured because they dragged her from the shop opposite CV Storm House and dropped her at the robots, even right now, I cannot believe that such a thing happened to Viola,” she added.
