Utete appointed Zimpapers Board chairperson

FORMER chief secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Charles Utete has been appointed Zimpapers Board chairperson taking over from Dr Paul Chimedza who contested and won Gutu South Constituency before being appointed Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care.
Before his recent appointment, Dr Utete had been a director at Zimbabwe Newspapers (1980) Ltd since September 2009. He has vast experience in the public and private sectors having been chairman of Cairns Holdings Ltd since January 2007.

He also chairs the boards of the Industrial Development Corporation and SeedCo Zimbabwe where he also served as a director.
Dr Utete retired from Government service in 2003 after 23 years and has been involved in business  ever since. He joined the civil service in 1981 as Secretary to the Prime Minister and Cabinet before being appointed Secretary to the President and Cabinet in 1987 in the wake of the introduction of Executive Presidency.

Dr Utete held the position until retirement.
On retirement in 2003, Dr Utete was appointed Chairperson of the Presidential Land Review Commission, which was tasked with assessing progress in the implementation of the land reform programme and to make recommendations.
