Zanu-PF national political commissar Cde Webster Shamu has said the party district executive committees would form the electoral college for next week’s provincial elections.
In a statement released by the commissariat department on Tuesday, Cde Shamu said there would be no restructuring of party districts this year.
“The national political commissar wishes to advise all party members that there is no restructuring of party districts this year since these were restructured last year and are due for restructuring in 2015 when their term expires,” the statement read.
“The district executives that qualify are those that were in existence in June 2013 when the party held its primary elections. Any district committees formed thereafter will be disqualified.
“Any co-options to fill vacant positions in the district must be cleared first with the commissariat department in writing detailing circumstances surrounding each case,” the statement read.
Cde Shamu said there would be no sacred cows and all positions would be filled through the elections. Branches, cells or villages would not be allowed to participate, Cde Shamu said.
He said all those wishing to contest at provincial level must notify their offices by Friday.
“Party members who wish to contest for the positions at provincial level must notify the provincial office for their names to reach the commissariat department by 18 October 2013.
“Outgoing provincial executive members are free to stand for elections into the baskets alongside new contestants,” the statement read.
