THREE University of Zimbabwe security guards were brought before the courts after allegedly assaulting a bike delivery man they accused of theft.

The accused Chipo Munyikwa (35) Tonderai Mudzinganyama (55) and Jorum Mushayi (61) did not enter a plea during their court appearance.

The complainant Mr Shepherd Mutamba (27), a delivery man residing in Eye Court Waterfalls, was reportedly assaulted on September 11.

According to prosecutors, Mr Mutamba received a message via WhatsApp from a client Amos Sarai instructing him to collect cash at the University farm.

Upon reaching the UZ farm, Mr Mutamba confirmed his identity with Sarai’s contact Munyikwa who subsequently handed him US$250.

After completing the transaction, Mr Mutamba informed Sarai that he had collected the money and was instructed to send it via Ecocash which he did.

Later that day, Sarai requested Mr Mutamba to collect more money from a different individual at the same location. However, since Mr Mutamba was about to finish work he postponed the collection to the following day.

The next day, Mr Mutamba was instructed to collect US$1 500 from a woman named Florence at the same address.

Before proceeding to the University of Zimbabwe farm, he had another delivery to make in Glen View.

Despite this, he decided to fulfil the order at UZ.

Upon arrival, Mr Mutamba asked to see Florence who was allegedly in the process of retrieving cash from her handbag while signalling to Munyikwa.

Suddenly, Mr Mutamba found himself surrounded by UZ security personnel.

Munyikwa reportedly slapped him and her accomplices handcuffed him accusing him of theft.

The security guards then allegedly took turns to assault Mr Mutamba as they transported him to the University of Zimbabwe main campus.
