Veteran saxophonist Philip Svosve will reunite with Tanga wekwa Sando on Friday during a Valentine’s dinner that promises to evolve into a mini-jazz festival.

Dubbed the “Valentine’s Africa Love Concert Dinner: A Night of Music, Romance, and Tradition,” the event will take place at The Grub Restaurant in Eastlea, Harare.

This new home of jazz is renowned for attracting the capital’s elite, including industry leaders, policymakers, and fellow artistes, all coming together under one roof.

With the Valentine’s Day euphoria irresistible, The Grub Restaurant is no doubt the place to be when top crooners serenade fans under one roof. Svosve, who has adopted the venue as his second home, is looking forward to the day.

“It feels good to be sharing the stage with Tanga wekwa Sando on Valentine’s Day. As you know, Tanga has many love songs, and it really promises to be an epic night of jazz and fine music. I can’t remember the last time we shared the stage together, but we are looking forward to a memorable night of good music and dance,” he said.

Added Svosve:

“As the granddaddies of Zim jazz, fans should turn out in numbers and support this initiative. We can’t wait to be here dishing out good music to the people. Jazz is for mature music lovers, and this show is undoubtedly one to look forward to.”

Similar sentiments were echoed by Sando, who hardly disappoints at Valentine’s Day dinners.

“I am looking forward to the night on Friday, where I will be sharing the stage with Philip Svosve. I can only promise a night of good love songs. Fans will be treated to original music, where the attention will be on love songs,” he said.

Better known for love songs like “Wake,” “Buhera,” and “Nyenyedzi,” among others, Sando is expected to churn out popular hit tracks on Friday.

“It is going to be a night of quality music. People need to show up in numbers and enjoy themselves,” he added.

Event coordinator Mathias Bangure assured both old and new patrons of a memorable night of jazz.

“In the spirit of love and appreciation, ladies will enjoy free admission to the event. Red roses will be abundant, and special cocktails and mocktails will be available to toast the evening. This event is a celebration of African love, music, and tradition,” said Bangure, organiser of the Valentine’s Africa Love Concert Dinner.

“We invite couples and music lovers to join us for an unforgettable evening of romance, fine dining, and live music.”

“Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to celebrate Valentine’s Day in style and tradition. Book your table now and make this evening one to cherish with your loved one,” he stressed.

For Svosve, the show is special since he will be preparing to celebrate his 75th birthday on February 20.

The veteran saxophonist, who leads the dynamic ensemble Jabavu Drive, is celebrating 55 years in the music industry.

It will be a double delight for Svosve, who is set to entertain jazz lovers on Valentine’s Day along with his peers.

He will also be celebrating a milestone in showbiz after 55 years in the game.

For Tanga, whose career spans over five decades, he has seen it all in this game. He started his professional career at the age of 17 with Harare Mambos in 1971.

Sando then played with Aces Wildflower, Unitee, SABU (Soul & Blues Union), and Gaborone City Orchestra before pursuing a performance career in the USA, New York City. On his return, he joined the Giraffe band before cementing the Tanga Wekwa Sando brand in the past two decades.
