CAPS Utd release Veremu

ZIMBABWE international defender Daniel Veremu has
been cleared to play for Premiership newboys FC Platinum after a row,
which threatened to derail his move, was finally resolved yesterday with
CAPS United waiving their rights to the centreback.
Veremu found
himself stuck in a messy dispute, amid claims by the Green Machine that
they had signed him in December last year and his decision to also ink a
deal with FC Platinum was a violation of the rules and regulations
guiding player transfers.
Yesterday CAPS United director Farai Jere
revealed that they had finally reached a settlement with FC Platinum for
the player to move to the Premiership newboys.
“As CAPS United we
can announce today that our interests in Daniel Veremu have ended after
completing successful negotiations with FC Platinum, whom we want to
salute for their professionalism, in the dispute that had arisen in the
transfer,” said Jere.
“We declared that we signed Veremu and we had
to protect our interests because we entered into a deal with the player,
for which we paid him a certain fee, and into his club Shooting Stars,
represented by their director Joel Sengeredo, for which we also paid a
certain fee.
“We were surprised to learn that Veremu had, after
agreeing to our deal, gone ahead and also signed another deal with FC
Platinum and we engaged our partners and we have to say it that we have
been impressed with the professionalism that we have seen in the
Platinum leadership.
“Our interests were concentrated on the losses
that CAPS United had incurred, in terms of what we had paid the player
and his club, and we discussed and agreed on a way forward which we
believed would not leave us in debt while at the same time we didn’t
want to stop the player fulfilling his dreams.”
Jere revealed that FC
Platinum agreed to reimburse CAPS United the US$7 000 they had paid to
Veremu and his club in the one-year loan deal that had since collapsed.
“Our
discussions with FC Platinum and their discussions with the player and
his management team also confirmed that we had paid a certain amount
towards bringing him to CAPS United for this season,” said Jere.
“But
we knew that the player was no longer interested in playing for us and
had set his sights on playing for FC Platinum and we didn’t want to be
seen to be standing in his way because that would have been heartless
and unprofessional.
“What we were interested in was safeguarding our
interests and we are happy that we found very professional guys at FC
Platinum who handled the case professionally and, right now, we have
been reimbursed the full transfer fees that we paid for Veremu.
“We
have now written to the PSL chief executive Kenny Ndebele advising him
that we have cancelled the agreement that we had with Veremu and they
should go ahead and register the player to enable the young man to
pursue his dream to play for FC Platinum.
“What is important is that
we have found a way to resolve the dispute and the player can now
continue to play his football and we wish him all the luck.”
The CAPS
United director said his team could have gone into the trenches and
asked for part of the transfer fee, for Veremu to move to FC Platinum,
because they had signed the player and they held his rights for this
season.
“We could have gone that avenue but we realised that it would
not have been in the interest of the player and the interest of the
game,” said Jere.
“The other thing that also made us look for a quick
solution was that the other party, the Platinum officials, were
excellent in the way that they handled the issue and we felt that it
would be unfair to make them suffer when they were not there when we
entered the deal with Veremu.
“What we have seen, in the few weeks
that we have dealt with the Platinum leadership, is that the team is in
very good hands and we are excited as CAPS United that such professional
leaders are coming on board in the Premiership because we know that it
means our league can only get better.
“We believe that the newboys
have a leadership that can help them become a big force in the league
this season and we are bracing for a tough battle already.”
