Hello there folks hope you are well this week. I had a weird request from someone, who asked me to give him some background information on teeth. I do not choose what to answer and what not too. . .so here we go.
You will be surprised to learn that whilst you were in your mothers stomach before you were born, all of your adult teeth had started forming.
And what your mum ate and drank whilst she was carrying you during her pregnancy can affect those tooth buds long before they became your permanent teeth. You teeth are your body’s strongest tissue believe it or not. You teeth have the highest percentage of minerals at 96%, which makes it even tougher than your bones.
Now it will surprise you to learn that when you bite your finger nails or when you stick your finger nails in between your teeth to clean them, you force your teeth to grind against each other. So it’s like two rocks rubbing against each other, there is going to be some form of damage.
When people say smile, its good for you; that statement is more true than you can imagine. A smile actually causes a release in endorphins, which are the feel-good hormones that you get looking at babies or things that you like.
Any form of sugar is bad, bad, bad for you. Soda, plus other acidic and sugary beverages like coffee, fruit juices, and even some sports drinks cause erosion and decay. Don’t sip that stuff all day long. If you’re going to enjoy your Diet Coke or any other soda, have it in one go and then cleanse your mouth with a glass of water.
As much as we are obsessed with whitening products, at the end of the day the difference between natural colour and bleached white isn’t that noticeable. It’s the balance and symmetry of our teeth that are key to an attractive smile. It is interesting to know that teeth develop in 3 stages. First, they form under the gum and then develop the crown. And then finally, the root develops, which anchors your teeth to your jaw.
You have heard people say things like. . . “You have Dad’s eyes or your mothers hair, but you may have also inherited your parents gapped teeth.
The next time you speak to one of your parents, take a good look at their teeth and see if you can see similarities. Did you know that as we evolve as human beings, our jaw length is getting shorter.
This now means that there is less room for those extra teeth. So you will find many people now a days having to get their incisor teeth removed, these are the big ones at the back of your mouth, because there is no space for them to grow. You teeth are possibly one of the hardest working part of your body when it comes to labour wise.
The front six on top and bottom bite, tear, and guide your chewing, while the group in the back (they’re angled differently with specific root structures) help break down the food. That’s why people with missing molars wear down their other teeth much more quickly – which is another reason to brush diligently!
