VASHAGARE: If lunacy was a form of money . . .

IF lunacy was a currency, Zimbabwean football would be full of millionaires.
Just what the hell is going on?
Damn! Yours truly is very angry, frothing at the mouth.
Things are falling apart at an alarming rate. At this speed we will hit oil much faster than Makandiwa prophesied.
Our football scene now resembles the “Tom & Jerry” cartoon series set, everything is going wrong thanks to selfish characters.
And there is an alarming shortage of common sense.
Our administrators appear intoxicated by Zed and Bronco while the fans, who are claimed to be the owners of the game, are so divided that they cannot even make their voices heard.
This December has seen the comical, inexcusable and downright nonsense all coming away and there appears to be no respite in sight unless Santa Claus brings us tonnes of thinking caps.
Just how do you explain the decision to fire Kallisto Pasuwa and his team just a few weeks before the start of the Africa Nations Championships in Rwanda?
Omega Sibanda is the acting Zifa president who is acting wrongly.
The guy needs to get a grip, and get it fast.
Some of us can see through his shenanigans and are also aware that he was of the belief that Zifa needed to fly him from Bulawayo for every meeting in the capital until Philip Chiyangwa reminded him the association is $6 million in the red.
Omz promised to work for the good of the game but the two weeks he has been acting Zifa boss have been disastrous.
Maybe the councillors who urged Chiyangwa to dump him as running mate before the December 5 elections were right after all.
The guy is dangerously power hungry.
But we have been here before, haven’t we?
Does anyone remember the dark days when we had Norman Mapeza and Madinda Ndlovu as the co-national team gaffers?
You know you are in trouble when your football administrators behave like provincial governors, always looking at doling it out for their homeboys.
Mandla Mpofu is a good guy, one of the few guys who looks at things holistically and never with Bulawayo eyes, but to make Lulu the Warriors assistant coach is a joke, a sick one.
Peter Nkomo and Cosmas Zulu, like seriously?
Chiyangwa needs to surround himself with football people and put his foot down lest he goes down in history as one of the worst Zifa presidents.
Yes, worse than Cuthbert Dube.
The Zifa board’s decision to question Twine Phiri’s standing as PSL boss smacked of politics — slimy, dirty politics.
Forced into a corner, Phiri has had to go into defensive mood, rallying teams behind him while forgetting some serious housekeeping matters.
Why hasn’t the PSL acted on the disgraceful scenes that engulfed Barbourfields Stadium during the NetOne Easycall Cup semi-final a fortnight ago?
No need to scratch your head, they are all in political mode.
Amen for Amini
So even turning water into wine would not have seen Amini Soma-Phiri bagging the Highlanders job?
Very sad.
The guy ended Bosso’s barren spell by winning the Easycall Cup and he did it in style — beating the old enemy Dynamos in the final — but his efforts were deemed not good enough.
One can understand Amini Soma-Phiri’s frustrations at the sudden turn of events but then again this is life. It’s never fair.
Now as bitter as Soma-Phiri is, the biggest mistake Highlanders will make is to make him assistant coach to their new European gaffer.
That would be a recipe for disaster.
But well done Amini Soma–Phiri, you are a good coach, a perfect example of why we should not judge a book by its suit, no cover, my apologies.
Merry Xmas Zimbabwe!
