vaShagare: It is more than just a game

POOR Amini Soma-Phiri last week told the world of how he was denied access to the honey pot by a wife who was angered by his decision to take up the coaching post at Bosso.
Apparently Mrs Soma-Phiri could not understand why her husband took up a low-paying job at the expense of the family’s well being, hence she decided to hit back in style.
“My wife and I spent almost two months without sleeping with each other as she could not understand why I took up the offer knowing full well that I have a family to feed.
“I am a brave man of strong conviction, I soldiered on…,” the temperamental coach was quoted as saying by B-Mtero.
Allow me to borrow the WhatsApp laugh and say … kikiki.
I suspect Mrs Soma-Phiri is a DeMbare supporter. How dare she punish a Bosso legend for serving and saving the club whose emblem is tattooed on his heart by crossing her legs?
But you see dear reader this is another classic example of why football is more than just a game; things that happen on the pitch can affect what happens everywhere – including the bedroom.
So the year of learning is coming to an end?
Yours truly hopes you learnt a lot during 2015 and you will enter the New Year a better individual.
Zifa president Phillip Chiyangwa should now be aware of what CAF, Fifa and Cosafa stand for.
Caps United captain Moses Muchenje will not need extra lessons on how to dress for such glitzy functions as the Soccer Star of the Year dinner.
If you haven’t seen the jacket the Makepekepe skipper wore to this year’s awards night, you ain’t seen anything comical yet!
It was as long as the ones that the Mahendere brothers made famous but its colour combination – black and brown – made it plain awful.
Speaking of dressing, Kenias Mubaiwa, the Dynamos president, is another guy who needs to know what to wear and where.
He pitched up for the Zifa elections wearing a short that was so short it can be called a bum short.
No doubt it was some expensive piece of clothing but come on, a short to such an event?
And the highlight for me was when Mubaiwa stood next to the elegantly dressed Farai Jere, the Caps United owner.
So here we had Kenias in shorts and Jere in his slim fit suit – two different world united by the world’s most beautiful game.
Omega Sibanda must have learnt a lot too this year, well at least in these past two weeks.
The poor guy must have lost a bit of fat, which is a good thing, because of the hammering he took for being the man who told the world about Zifa’s silly decision to fire Kallisto Pasuwa.
It turns out this wasn’t a Sibanda decision alone, as burly as he is the man does not have the strength to pull off such a feat.
We – including yours truly – shot the messenger on the Pasuwa issue and now Omz is stuck in Bulawayo wondering if he can still trust the other Zifa board members.
But Omz has to look at the brighter side, he lost some weight and got some massive publicity – no publicity is bad publicity mngane wami.
Final Words
Maybe I won’t come back next year, next weekend.
Listen to the celebrations!
Is that the Premier Soccer League I hear ululating, that organisation that decided to act on the Barbourfields violence after VaShagare highlighted the issue?
And there is Xolisani Gwesela, Norman Mapeza and Jonathan Mashingaidze … good God, there are plenty who are celebrating.
I may not come back because you can never be sure with life but one thing I am doing – one thing you should do – is thank God for the gift of life.
It’s election by grace, there is no science to it.
God bless Zimbabwe.
Happy New Year!
