HARARE – Mineral exploitation company Vast Resources, which runs its flagship Pickstone Peerless Gold Mine in Zimbabwe, has appointed Andrew Prelea and Craig Harvey to its board.
Both will continue as chief executive and chief operating officer respectively
“Both men have demonstrated their expertise and commitment to Vast over several years,” said Vast.
In a statement after, the miner said Prelea, previously a bulk iron ore and steel trader, had managed the group’s Romanian operations since they were acquired, and was appointed as chief executive following the resignation of Roy Pitchford at the end of 2017.
And Harvey was at Harmony Gold, where he managed the mineral resource function on various operations and was involved in due diligence on acquisitions.
He joined Vast Resources as a consultant in 2013 and became chief operating officer in March 2017.
“I have great pleasure in welcoming Andrew and Craig to the Board,” said Brian Moritz, chairman.
“Both have demonstrated their expertise and commitment to Vast over several years as part of our senior management team, and have contributed substantially to the improving performance of the Manaila mine. I believe that their appointment to the board will enable them to further shape and advance the company’s strategy moving forward.”
For the fourth quarter of last year, the group saw record production at Pickstone-Peerless.
90,874 tonnes of ore were milled, up 27 percent quarter-on-quarter. There was a 26 percent quarter-on-quarter increase in ore milled to 86,097 tonnes and a 28 percent quarter on quarter increase in gold production to 6,057 ounces.
