Vendor to serve six years

He was on Tuesday sentenced to five years in prison for housebreaking of which two years were conditionally suspended for five years.

 

Mrs Mapiye sentenced him to six years in prison for theft and suspended half the sentence on condition that he pays restitution of $10 444, 97.

He will serve an effective six years.

Miss Liane Nkomo for the State  said between 19 February 2006 and 3 November this year, Lunga broke  into premises in the city, which included business premises and a church and stole property valued at $14 444,97.

The property he stole included foodstuffs, textbooks, paints, stationery, plumbing materials, tools, electronic gadgets, building         materials, cash, cigarettes, sweets and shoes.

Detectives from the Stores Section arrested Lunga after a tip off from members of the public and through his indications property worth $4 000 was recovered.
