Venezuela slams US plan to capture President Maduro

VENEZUELA’S  Ambassador to Namibia Dr Magaly Henriquez has denounced the recent plan by the United States government to capture President Nicolás Maduro Moros.

Ambassador Henriquez described the move as an unprecedented political aggression and a deliberate attempt to destabilise the political and economic climate of the Bolivarian Republic, which has recorded 17 consecutive quarters of economic growth.

The diplomat criticised Washington’s decision to offer a US$50 million reward for information leading to the capture of the Venezuelan President, on accusations of having links to international drug trafficking groups in Mexico and Colombia.

Supporting this position, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil described the reward as “the most ridiculous smokescreen we have ever seen.”

Said Ambassador Henriquez: “While we are dismantling terrorist plots orchestrated from the United States, this woman (US Special Prosecutor Pam Bondi) is launching a media circus to please the defeated far-right in Venezuela.

“The dignity of our homeland is not for sale. We repudiate this crude political propaganda operation.”

Presidents of Mexico and Colombia have also publicly rejected the accusations levelled against President Maduro.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated: “It is the first time we have heard of this issue. There is no investigation in Mexico related to that. If they have any evidence, let them show it. We have no proof whatsoever.”

On his part, Colombian President Gustavo Petro said: “Venezuela and Maduro have helped us defeat drug trafficking at the border with determination.

“The justice system must be independent from governments, from Alaska to Patagonia. I do not agree with Latin American blood being shed by imposition.

“Colombia and Venezuela are the same people, the same flag, and the same history.”

Ambassador Henriquez highlighted that countries such as China, Russia, Iran, Turkey, Cuba, Nicaragua and Honduras have expressed their support for Venezuela and condemned the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States.

In that regard, Ambassador Henriquez said the United States must not violate international law by relying on its “National Security” policy.

She reaffirmed Venezuela’s commitment to multilateralism, peace and international cooperation, and called on friendly countries to reject the judicialisation of foreign policy as a tool of geopolitical pressure.
