THE challenges with stadiums have returned to haunt the Northern Region Soccer League (NRSL), with the league authorities forced to delay the start of the 2025 season.
It has emerged that several venues earmarked for use in this year’s championship are not yet ready.
The league, which was scheduled to begin on March 23, will now kick off on April 5.
Reports indicate that several stadiums are grappling with waterlogged pitches, while others have suffered from poor maintenance.
These issues have raised concerns about player safety and the quality of matches, forcing the NRSL to reschedule the season.
In a statement released, NRSL urged affected clubs to address the identified problems swiftly.
“Kindly note that the season kick-off has been deferred to the 5th of April of the instant as some of the venues are not ready to host our matches.”
“We therefore urge the affected clubs to expeditiously attend to areas of concern as was indicated during our inspections.
The region has also lamented that they have rescheduled this Saturday’s annual general meeting. The AGM will now be held on March 22.
However, the region has stated that the window period will not be moved, with clubs expected to pay affiliation fees and register their players for the 2025 season before March 31.
“Further, kindly note that the window period closes on the 31st of March 2025 without exception. Once again, we look forward to an exciting and competitive season.”
