Vertonghen open to Arsenal move

Vertonghen is contracted to Ajax until 2013 but is set to leave the Dutch club at the end of the season, and he had previously revealed that Spurs were at            the head of the queue to sign him.
However, the Belgian defender, who was at the Emirates last week to watch Arsenal beat AC Milan 3-0 in the Champions League at the request of former Ajax team-mate Thomas Vermaelen, has named the Gunners as a possible destination.
“My agent knows what clubs I’m willing to go to. Arsenal are obviously one of them,” Vertonghen said in the Daily Express. “Ajax are busy             trying to find solutions to replace me.”
The 24-year-old came through the youth ranks at Ajax and is now captain of the club, but has made it clear he wishes to join a Premier League side at the end of the Eredivisie campaign.
“Who wouldn’t want to play football at a top club in England?” Vertonghen said. “But first I want to concentrate fully on the title race.”
Vertonghen has been at Ajax his entire career, except for a season-long loan with Belgian side Waalwijk in 2006-07, and was named captain following goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg’s move to Roma last summer. — Soccernet.
