Veteran artiste Albert Nkunzi laid to rest

pay their last respects to the late Albert Nkunzi, who passed away at Chitungwiza Central Hospital last Saturday.
Speaker after speaker hailed the legacy left by the late Nkunzi that needs to be cherished, as he was a pillar of strength to his family and the arts and culture industry.

National Arts Council of Zimbabwe director Elvas Mari described Albert’s departure as a big blow not to his family only but also to the arts and culture industry.
“I joined the arts and culture industry in 2002 when Albert was already there and I learnt a lot from him,” said Mari.
He urged all artistes to teach others like what Albert did so that when time such as death comes, knowledge would not be lost.

Professor Heneri Dzinotyiwei, the Minister of Science and Technology, described the late Nkunzi as a humble member of staff and a good administrator as transport officer.
When Prof Dzinotyiwei assumed office in 2009, Albert was already with the ministry and had good background of Government regulations.
“I urge all those who remain behind to emulate this man who always worked tirelessly both in the ministry and the arts industry,” said Prof Dzinotyiwei.

Popular Studio 263 actress Pretty Xaba who worked with Albert in the arts industry since 1991 described him as a man who always encouraged his peers to learn.
“I completed a course in counseling at the Evangelical Faith of Zimbabwe through Albert’s encouragement,” said Xaba.

She also recalled Albert when they met in Nigeria where they had gone for a trade union workshop when he displayed good administrative skills.

Xaba also described Albert as a kind person who assisted many people, saying he was the one who claimed the body of the late Mary Masikati that had spent five months in the mortuary. He could also offer hispersonal vehicle as transport for actors to and after rehearsals.
Mrs Bybit Tsomondo, a former mayor for Norton, also spoke of the good work done by the late Albert whom she worked with as her deputy until 2008.
Nkunzi featured in a number of local dramas such as “Ndezvemeso”, “Mafuromanyoro” and “Ndakaitei”.

He also co-directed and produced several episodes of the popular television soap “Legacies” with the late Kaleb Maramba.
At the time of his death, Albert was the secretary-general of Zimbabwe Film & Television Actors Union (ZIFTAU) and is survived by his wife and four children.
