Vettel on pole, Hamilton fifth

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel took pole for the Singapore Grand Prix as Mercedes failed to qualify at the front of the grid for the first time in 15 months. Vettel put in a sensational performance to qualify fastest by 0,543 seconds from Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo for Ferrari’s first pole position the 2012 German Grand Prix. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton qualified only fifth, behind Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen and Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat.

The world championship leader’s team-mate Nico Rosberg was sixth.

Williams’s Valtteri Bottas was seventh, split from team-mate Felipe Massa in ninth by Toro Rosso’s Max Verstappen, as Lotus’s Romain Grosjean completed the top 10. — BBC Sport
