MUSIC starved residents of Victoria Falls were on Saturday treated to a variety of music at an all-night gala held at Chinotimba Stadium. The Crime Consultative Committee for Matabeleland North province and Business Against Crime Forum of Zimbabwe (BAFCOZ) in conjunction with Criminal Investigating Department (CID) Matabeleland North organised the gala to raise funds to fight crime. The gala came at a time when CID recorded a 68 percent crime detection rate in Matabeleland North province with 289 cases detected between January and June.
Among those who performed were Ndolwane Super Sounds’ Martin Sibanda, Kwejani Band, Buju, Shantani from Hwange, Nash, CrisOzy, Mafia King and Vic Falls Express. Sibanda, popularly known as the Big Boss to his legion of fans, did not disappoint as he kept hundreds of fans on their feet for about four hours. The artiste, who has gone for almost three years without releasing an album after the superb Bakhuzeni, said fans needed to be a bit patient.
“I’ve been working on something but I don’t want to rush it because it has to be better than Bakhuzeni which is still a hit,” Sibanda said. Kwejani Band fronted by Sizwangendaba Ncube also put up a sterling performance that kept fans on their feet.
“We really need such occasions and we’re grateful to the organisers,” said Ncube. CCC vice chairman, Fredrick Mafira, appealed to members of the public to work with the police in ensuring a crime free community. He also urged parents to encourage children to take part in police junior call programmes for a crime free society.
Mafira said another gala would be held in October featuring more artistes.
