VICE President Kembo Mohadi is expected to tour the US$1.5 billion Dinson Iron and Steel Company (Disco) Manhize Steel Plant.
The company officially commenced steel production at its Manhize plant, marking a major milestone for Zimbabwe’s industrial sector.
It is now producing 16mm, 20mm, and 25mm deformed bars, which are final products suitable for construction purposes.

Disco is currently producing about 300 tonnes of deformed bars per day, with an annual target of 600,000 tonnes.
The company’s operations are expected to contribute to increased steel production capacity in Zimbabwe, reducing reliance on imports and enhancing self-sufficiency.
The facility will also create employment opportunities, stimulate economic growth, and contribute to the development of the manufacturing sector.

Overall, Disco’s steel production is set to play a significant role in Zimbabwe’s economic development, industrialisation, and infrastructure growth — ultimately contributing to the country’s progress and prosperity.
Our Midlands Bureau Chief Patrick Chitumba will be giving us live updates from the event.

Great initiative there and a possible revival for our national fortunes if handled well. just for the asks, how much is the cost of local tonne steel at DISCO compared to the imported . we clearly cannot export and import the same products , all things being equal.
