A sudden and intense windstorm swept through Victoria Falls on Monday evening, toppling trees and electricity poles, plunging the resort city into total darkness. The dry squall occurred around 6 PM and lasted barely five minutes, causing people to scurry for cover.

Chronicle understands that the unusual condition, resembling a whirlwind, also struck Hwange, where trees fell on vehicles. Other parts of the country were affected as well, with some window panes shattering in Bulawayo’s Nkulumane 12 suburb.

The win also disrupted water pumping, leaving the entire city without water.
