Briefing the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) general assembly 2013 inter-ministerial committee led by Vice President Joice Mujuru recently, Victoria Falls Safari Lodge general manager, Mr Jonathan Hudson said their vision was to have the project completed between 20 and 29 June.
“As you can see, we are almost through with the construction of the major building.
“The new wing will have 20 executive rooms and a club exclusive to the residents only. The wing will have access to the Boma and Makuwakuwa restaurant.
“The rooms will be bigger, wider and this will be an open plan looking into the African bush.
“There will be screen doors and a special security system,” he said.
Mr Hudson said that they were going to add a TV lounge and an open bar.
“That is the plan for the new wing. It should be open in August this year, just in time for the busy season.
“We are also doing Lokuthula and the project will see the refurbishment of 37 units and personally I want to see luxury villas in future.”
He also said plans were at an advanced stage for the setting up of the first bio-park in the resort town.
Mr Hudson said the park will be constructed on eight acres of land and will have cultural, historic, tribal and animal interactive centres.
“We need such developments because we are anticipating a boom in tourism arrivals in the town and country at large.
“We also anticipate an annual increase of between 20 percent and 28 percent. So we are looking at an additional 150 to 300 people per week,” said Mr Hudson.
In response, VP Mujuru commended the hotel for the good work.
“This is good work and we pray that you continue the good work,” she said.
