VICTORIA Junior scored a first by becoming the only primary school in Masvingo Province to produce 14 pupils with four units in the Grade Seven examinations.
Masvingo district has dominated the province as it has more schools with a 100 percent pass rate.
In a recent interview, deputy provincial education director Andrew Chikwange said this year’s Grade Seven results were better than the previous years in terms of quality. “Although we have not finished analysing the results, this year’s results are impressive compared to other years. Victoria Junior has 14 pupils who scored four units while the traditional powerhouse, Gokomere, and Shakashe have 12 and 10 pupils with four units respectively. We hope to have a comprehensive report next week,” said Chikwange.
Rivertone Academy was rated the best school after scoring a 100 percent pass rate.
All the 23 pupils who sat for the 2013 examinations passed while Gokomere sits on second position with 97,16 percent with 12 candidates out of 142 having passed with four units while the rest got six units and better.
ZRP Zimuto Primary School was the most improved school in the province after it scored 96,88 percent pass rate and assumed third position. Thirty one pupils out of 36 scored six units and better. However, Shakashe and Hellen McGhie who used to dominate in the province were relegated to fourth and fifth position respectively with 95,27 and 95,12 percent pass rates.
Shakashe has 127 pupils who sat for the examinations and 10 pupils scored four units while Hellen McGhie has seven out of 82 who scored four units.
Kyle Primary and Preparatory School are among the top 10 in the province and are ranked sixth with 91,89 and 88,89 pass rates respectively.
Rujeko also improved as it is ranked seventh in the province with 91,76 percent pass rate.
Six out of 11 got four units. However, Hippo Valley Primary is the only school outside Masvingo district which made it into top 10 in the province. The school achieved 91,30 percent and is on position eight.
