A VEHICLE Inspection Depot (VID) officer stationed in Hwange recently committed suicide by hanging himself in his bathroom in a suspected case of depression following the death of his son in a car crash two years ago.Pollius Moyo was found hanging from a shower pipe last Tuesday by his wife after indicating to her that he was not going to work as he was not feeling well.

Sources close to the developments told Sunday News that the incident was triggered by news that his late son’s friend who survived the accident was marrying.

Moyo’s son Richard was killed in a car accident along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway while on a joyride with his father’s superior a Mrs Chimawu’s son who was driving the vehicle.

“Moyo never recovered from the death of his son as each time he saw his boss’ son who was driving the vehicle which killed his son it would hurt him as he wished his child had survived.

“What actually made matters worse was that she did not try to have him transferred even after we indicated to her how much the incident was eating Moyo away,” said a close relative who refused to be named.

Although Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese was unavailable for comment police sources confirmed the incident saying at around 10am Moyo told his wife that he was not feeling well and was not going to work before proceeding to the bathroom to brush his    teeth.

His wife became suspicious at the time her husband took brushing his teeth and decided to investigate whereupon she found Moyo hanging from the shower pipe.

“We are not sure of the circumstances surrounding the suicide but at around 10am sometime last week the deceased was found hanging from a pipe in the bathroom by his wife at their home in Baobab,” said the source.

Efforts to get comments from workmates were fruitless as they refused to discuss Moyo’s death with the Press. He has since been buried.
