South African disc jockey and Amapiano singer DJ Vigro Deep and DJ Mandisa Radebe, popularly known by her stage name, DBN Gogo, are set to perform in the country ahead for the “Woods Pub and Grill” restaurant first anniversary celebrations next weekend.
The duo are expected to arrive on the 13 November ahead of the celebrations the same day.
The event is being held in conjunction with NamaquaWines Zimbabwe and will be held at Alex Sports Club.
One of the organisers of the show, Francis Papa Dendere, operations director for the restaurant, said preparations were at an advanced stage and they had also engaged relative authorities ahead of the show.
“We are happy that the Amapiano sensation and DBN Gogo have confirmed that he is coming and we are now working on the modalities to make sure everything is in place and above board,” he said.
“The event will be held under the Covid-19 regulations and we will make sure we meet the curfew demands.”
Dendere explained the influence by the South African duo and how it has impacted the local fans.
“DJ Vigro Deep is one of the most recognisable figures in the genre of Amapiano as his music has been commanding dance floors across the region.
“DBN Gogo got to see her face light up Times Square in New York for her involvement in Spotify’s Equal Music Programme.
“She is beaming with pride after seeing her face appear on a billboard in Times Square. The billboard was a result of her involvement with Spotify’s Equal Music programme alongside Nigerian star Tiwa Savage and rapper Saweetie. So this is also an opportunity for them to share their testimony with our local musicians.”
Dendere said the celebrations will attract local celebrities and some top disc jockeys and musicians to share the stage with DJ Vigro.
“The South African musicians are billed to share the stage with local acts such as DJ’s Andile Brown, Coop, Judgement Yard, Nu Vyb, C Skillz, Klique, Danny Vybz, Chucknosis and MC Mocla among others. So far we are also working with local DJ’s to give them opportunities and empower them. We have also set aside other shows scheduled for December,” he said.
