Villagers embark on dam dredging project

Chronicle Reporter
VILLAGERS from Ntabazinduna in Umguza District have embarked on a project to remove silt from Luthi and Mabada Dams which should be completed before the onset of the rains.
The community-based project is funded under the “Food for asset programme” being run by Hope for a Child in Christ (HOCIC).
In an interview yesterday, one of the villagers, Mr Douglas Zidla, said the rehabilitation of the dams was meant to improve the village’s water supply.

“We are happy with the project undertaken by HOCIC which we hope is going to end water shortage problems in our area,” said Mr Zidla.
He said plans were underway to set up nutrition gardens at the dams.

Ms Sunga Mzeche, the programme coordinator for HOCIC, said her organisation was partnering with the local community and Umguza Rural District in rehabilitating the dams to mitigate food and water shortages in the area.
