ZIMBABWEANS Kieren Vincent and David Amm had a good start at the 52nd edition of the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf tournament at the Biltmore Hotel, Coral Gables, Florida United States yesterday.

The duo both from Chapman finished tied on fourth place having carded level par 71 to tie with four other players going into late yesterday second round.

Amm and Vincent were tied with David Ravetto of France, Swiss Robert Foley, Will Dickson from Providence Rhode Island, United States as well as Belgium’s Adrien Dumont de Chassart.

Chile’s Joaquin Niemann (17) returned to defend his title and has already taken the lead and was tied with Giovanni Tadiotto all on two-under-par 70 while Kristoffer Reitan, the Norwegian National Junior Champion, is on third. Should Niemann, from Santiago win the title for the second time it would be the first time such a feat has been achieved in the Boys Division. The young player has had an impressive 2015, with wins at the Canadian Junior Challenge, the Junior World IMG (Torrey Pines) and the Chilean Junior Open.

Amm opened the first round with a bogey on par five before he quickly recovered on par three second hole with a birdie before a par on the third.

It was on the fourth hole where he double dropped getting a six on par four.

The player closed the first nine with a birdie before he went on to get pars on holes 10, 11, 12 13 and 16 while the other two he got biddies. Vincent, on the other hand, had pars in the opening eight holes before closing with a birdie and the back nine saw him dropping shots in holes 10, 12 and 16 but he managed birdies in holes 11 and 15. The other representative from Zimbabwe Justin Kersten struggled in the opening round and finished at a distant 31 at four over par. The three will be trying to emulate the late Lewis Chitengwa (Jnr) who beat Tiger Woods in 1992 to become the first African to win the title.
