MASHONALAND West Minister of Provincial Affairs and Devolution Dr Marian Chombo yesterday said domestic violence has no place in marriages and called on partners to resolve their problems peacefully.
She said this at the wedding of Advocate Melissa Dinha, the daughter of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Deputy Minister, Mercy Dinha, to Ezekiel Domsala, who hails from Cameroon, at the Messianic Family Centre in Norton.
Melissa is also the president of Lawyers for Economic Development, while her father is former Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Minister, Advocate Martin Dinha.
“In any household, there’s no place for violence and to Ezekiel, I say to you, do not raise your hand to beat her up, but to love and embrace her,” she said.
Dr Chombo also urged the newly wedded couple to refrain from unnecessarily involving third parties in their marriage.
“To Melissa, I say from today onwards your best friend is your husband and he is the one you confide in and God.
“To the Domsala’s I say to you, we have given you our daughter, please welcome her into your family and assist and teach her whenever there’s need, she is not perfect,” she said.
Dr Chombo also urged the couple to avoid taking their issues to social media saying it had the potential to wreck their marriage.
“Social media can make you or break you, choose your friends wisely and to the bride, as the Bible says, also submit to your husband, while to Ezekiel, just as the Bible also say, a man is incomplete without a wife and from today, you are now complete,” Dr Chombo said.
The ceremony was attended by several legislators from Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central provinces and Deputy Minister of Energy and Power Development, Yeukai Simbanegavi.
