VISION Arts Foundation is set to host a drug awareness campaign in Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo on 31 August to fight the drug menace in the area.

The event is a networking initiative that is set to bring a number of organisations and businesses with a goal of raising an awareness on drug abuse and empowering youths. The founder of Vision Arts Foundation Wesley Gandary said their goal was to join in the fight against drug abuse which is affecting a number of youths.

“Drug and substance abuse is rampant in the country and it is destroying the future of youths. Our goal as a foundation is to raise an awareness on the dangers of drug abuse and help change the mind set of the youths. Our aim is to groom youths that have a mind set to build strong, safe and secure foundations for the generations to come,” said Gandary.

Gandary said he was inspired by the potential that he saw from the youths in his area.

“I realised that a number of youths in my area have great ideas but however, the mind set of working together has not been cultivated. This event is not only about drug abuse but also a platform to network with different organisations and businesses,” he said.

He added that there were a number of programs lined up for the event that entail sports and various performances.

“There are some activities lined up for the day that entail soccer, volleyball and there are a number of creatives that are set to perform at the event. There are a number of activities that we have in store for the youths, at the beginning of the year we had a youth business expo in Cowdray Park and before year end, we are hoping to host a similar event,” he said.
