PHENOMENAL visual artist, Webster Mubayirenyi, yesterday held his first solo exhibition at Pikicha Art Gallery in Helensvale, Harare.

Mubayirenyi, who has already featured at various exhibitions across the country and won some awards, decided to go solo, after 14 years.

In an interview with H-Metro, Mubayirenyi said his focus is mainly on colourful landscape abstractions of reality.

“After I was exposed to a variety of artistic media, which have diversified my craft, I adopted an imaginative license that has pushed me to deepen my craft.

“My art is made up of a surreal fashion, in which realism and surrealism are combined, to create deeply personal images and statements that are unique,” said Mubayirenyi.

Mubayirenyi, whose major focus is landscape oil canvas painting, wishes to expand his work.

He says he is inspired by spiritual forces, dreams, politics and international social activities, in his art.

Mubayirenyi is a proud Progressive Artist award 2009 winner.

The new space at Pikicha Art Gallery encourages, and accommodates creative people, to work in a shared environment.
