Visual arts seminar on cards

Gallery of Zimbabwe (NGZ) is calling for all Harare Metropolitan and surrounding areas’ visual artists to attend an important visual arts meeting at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Harare on August 26, 2011

The purpose of the meeting is to record artists’ views towards formation of a strong representative visual arts body that will come up with proposals for sustainable policies that can legally protect artists and their work from abuse, exploitation and address various artists’ concerns.

If formed, the registered art body in collaboration with other representative bodies from various regions of the country will speak with one voice when lobbying for formulation of sustainable policies that will address the current grey areas in the country’s copyright legislation. Currently, there is a huge information gap amongst majority of the country’s visual artists, especially fine art practitioners on

Zimbabwe’s copyright laws that can legally protect them from abuse of their work and exploitation amongst other things.
Zimbabwe’s fine art practitioners are miles behind their counterparts in music, film, theatre and literature in terms of having strong representative bodies that help the artists during crisis periods and free circulation of information.
