THE Zimbabwe National volleyball league action resumes today at White City Stadium in Bulawayo with Highlanders men’s team making their debut appearance with an opening match against Chinhoyi University of Technology.
The league kicked off in July with teams meeting at the University of Zimbabwe courts before taking a break due to the harmonised elections that also forced uniformed side Support Unit to postpone their opening season’s game as they were on national duty.
“The return of Support Unit men from national duty will add spice to the games as they are a bogey side to UZ Wolves,” said Brian Manuel, the Zimbabwe Volleyball League vice president responsible for competitions.
Each team will play at most three games and at least two games.
UZ Wolves men and women are topping the log as they swept past all their opponents in the first round of games. However, the women need to be wary of Harare City Ladies as well as Spartans who might offer them some resistance.
Spartans’ coach Vulindlela Moyo said they were looking forward to the games but expressed concerns over the fitness of some of his players.
“We are ready for the games as a team but I am a bit worried by some of my players’ fitness levels as we have not been having the desired training schedule due to circumstances which are beyond our control but nevertheless we are ready to give it our best shot,” said the decorated veteran gaffer.
