THE Zimbabwe Volleyball Association and Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Beach Volleyball Referees Course that was set to start yesterday and end on Friday in Harare has been postponed.
ZVA president Frederick Ndlovu confirmed that the three-day referees’ training course was moved to December 10-13.
“We’re holding the course in a move to improve the standards and the number of volleyball referees around the country,” said Ndlovu.
He said the course has been postponed because FIVB instructor Christian Didembourg from Belgium who was expected in the country yesterday was delayed in Burundi, where he is conducting another referees’ coaching course.
“We expected Didembourg to arrive in the country today but he communicated that he wasn’t yet done with another class that he is training in Burundi, so we had no option but to postpone the course,” he said.
Ndlovu said they had made arrangements with another instructor from Egypt. “Since the course in Burundi delayed to start, Didembourg won’t be able to make it before December 10, so we made arrangements with Ahab Nadar Tadres Mekhael from Egypt to come and conduct the course,” said Ndlovu.
Ndlovu said there would not be any changes to personnel expected for the Games and they expect about 30 referees to participate in the event with 15 already having confirmed by paying $70 registration fees.
