VICE PRESIDENT Constantino Chiwenga, has hailed the Roman Catholic Church for its role in providing quality education, and health services in the country.
He made the remarks during a speech read on his behalf by Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, at the official opening of Lady of Perpetual Help Primary School in Brundish.
Earlier, the Religious Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Mary Clinic had also been opened in Rujeko.
VP Chiwenga said construction of the two institutions was a clear positive response to President Mnangagwa’s clarion call for the citizens to build the country.
“As Government, we greatly appreciate you for establishing these institutions and we have no doubt that they will be instrumental towards the development of human capital and advancing the livelihood of Mashonaland West province and the nation at large.
“The Government of Zimbabwe applauds your efforts to provide affordable healthcare to ordinary Zimbabweans,” said VP Chiwenga.
He assured the church of the Government’s support for the smooth operation of the facilities.
Speaking at the same occasion, Bishop of Chinhoyi Raymond Mpandasekwa, said the completion of the first phase of the school led to an enrolment of 200 learners in February.
Mpandasekwa said the church will continue engaging the Government on similar projects.
“We saw it easier to engage the community and parents as the school is very close to their homes,” said Mpandasekwa.
Mashonaland West Provincial Education Director Jason Dzveta said construction of the school was one of the wishes of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s thrust on infrastructure development.
The Roman Catholic Church, he said, has done very well in this thrust.
“It is also the fulfilment of the Public, Private Partnership thrust that is being encouraged by the Second Republic,” said Dzveta.
