Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga has touched down here for this year’s 19th edition of the Africa Conclave on India-Africa Partnership that is organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry.
VP Chiwenga is also scheduled to attend several investment scouting meetings.

Health and Child Care Minister, Dr Douglas Mombeshora and other senior Government officials are accompanying the VP.

Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to India, Ms Stella Nkomo, received the delegation that is drawn from various Government ministries, the Mutapa Investment Fund and the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency, among others.

The Conclave is a premier investment expo through which the Asian economic behemoth seeks African opportunities.

Zimbabwe is participating at this and other international expos as part of an elaborate exercise to tap into global investments and form synergies with key international fund managers in line with its aspirations of attaining an empowered upper-middle income economy by 2030.

Speaking to journalists upon his arrival, VP Chiwenga said Zimbabwe needs to boost economic cooperation with India.

“We are attending the 19th edition of the Africa Conclave on India-Africa Partnership and this is my third time coming to this forum which links Africa and India on economic opportunities,” said VP Chiwenga.

“As Zimbabwe, we are looking at several areas. As you might be aware, we have been working with the Indians in various economic areas, mainly in the energy sector and small and medium enterprises.

“Overall, this is an opportunity to showcase the investment opportunities in Zimbabwe. Our delegation includes officials from Government and the private sector. They will be scouting for areas of cooperation with their Indian counterparts,” said VP Chiwenga.

India is one of the top five investors in Africa. The Asian giant invested over US$73 billion between 1996 and 2021, and its trade with African countries reached US$98 billion between 2022 to 2023.

India has extended concessional loans of over $12,37 billion to African enterprises and has completed about 197 projects across the continent.

There is scope to further these partnerships in areas such as digital transformation, green technologies, health, food and water security.
